valves was created by KZ700A1
So over the winter I got the valves on my 700 all set right & replaced the gasket, everything was great. I changed the oil & have run it a few times (less than 500mi) this year and the tap started to come back, now Saturday the bike fell over while running (no real damage) and now the tap is even worse. Could the falling over have knocked something out of whack? Where should I go from here?

Exhaust leak most likely at the head.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

KZ, silly thought, but listen/feel for a possible exhaust leak. Tapping (to my ear)can be , 1 valves, wristpin/bigend (usually flutter or knock) piston slap. exhaust leaks can exibit in many forms. hope for the best. a casual tip over shouldn't cause any internal damage/change.. Luck G

The motor has always had a knock to it, I didn't think anything of it b/c I've never really heard an old Kaw 4cyl and wasnt sure if its inherent to the motor or not.

KZ, Engine noises are a constant. evaluating them much more specialized. new zeds were at one time almost sewing machine smooth. period yamahas made a cam chain whiz which overpowered their exhaust. SOHC hondas made so much primary chain noise it sounded like they were coming apart at idle.(almost as bad as dry cluth Ducks) If concerned see if there's an old fart willing to lend an ear. Period KZ's were/are stout.30+ years of wear/sitting means they are no longer silent. noises which change/increase should be evaluated. light to moderate engine noises which decrease w/ warming accepted as par. I hope this helps.G

I havent synched the carbs yet, but the tappping usually goes away after about 2k RPM. Will an inexpensive synch tool work, or should I buy the pricey one?
