Are knock pins important?

I went to put my clutch cover back on tonight and found that I've lost the two knock pins. :pinch:

What are they for? Are they important enough that I should wait until getting two replacements before putting it back together?

if your talking about the little dowel pins that are like little tubes. they are very important. There is too much slop in the bolts for proper alignment. if you dont have them, something may not line up properly.

Would someone please look at the Crankcase parts (#11) I don't see anything called 'knock pins' anywhere and that is what the FSM calls them.

On the diagram are they the Pin Dowels? #92043 It doesn't look like the correct location. However, I also looked under Engine Covers, & Crankcase Bolt & Stud Pattern but can't find the part.

I couldn't view the page you have linked there (time out error) but the parts that dman is referring to are called Pin Dowels. In the Kawasaki parts diagrams they should be on the Cylinder Head page.

For some reason I couldn't bring up the parts for your model bike. The cylinder head page for my bike ('78 650) is here. The dowels are #3. Is this what they looked like in the 750 diagram?

Thank you HerrDeacon. I fixed the link for the parts diagram so it should work now. (Let me know if it doesn't.)

The part you pointed out appears to be the same part as what I think goes into the pin holes of the crankcase for the clutch cover. The thing that had/has me confused is that Kaw normally marks every part on the bike. However, I haven't found that specific one yet. Its a good hunch though so I'll order them in if my local parts store doesn't have them in stock.

Thanks again.

I'm really sorry Little B. For some reason when I read this thread I was thinking you were talking about the dowels for the cam caps. Don't know what I was thinking, just re-read it and now realize you were talking about the clutch. I must have been asleep :) Sorry about that.

Looking at the crankcase diagram, it looks like it may be 92043 (Part # 92042-016), but hard to be sure. I thought it would be on the Engine Covers diagram, but it has nothing like it.

No problem at all HerrDeacon! B) Thank you for your help. Besides the 3 places we looked, I can't think of anywhere else it would be either. Anyway, its probably a safe bet at least.

Do my part diag links work now?
