if you cant fix it with a hammer and duct tape, get a bigger hammer and more duct tape!!

well, i just checked the numbers on my valve shims and most of them are around 2.30 and 2.40, my valves are extra tight right now and i may have to use 2.20 or even smaller shims, the problem is they only make the 29mm shims down to 2.00.

I don't understand why you need new valves. If the shims are too THIN, the valve ends can be ground to get the shim size into the middle of the range. If the seats are cut too deep and you can't cut the valve ends any shorter, new valves won't help.

To make it work again in spec, you need to have the valves pulled out and ground down a little. It is a easy job for any local machine shop. Or you could get APE to do it if you want to know it is done right (maybe spring for a little port and polish while the head is there...)

bought it because I was told it would never run again...I like to prove people wrong.

You many need new valves but just because you're on the low end of the shim range doesn't suggest that.
If you can spin the buckets, then you have clearance. Being at 230 - 240 shim range leaves you more than enough to work with for adjustments this riding season.
Check compression on the motor now and after the valve adjustment.
Do a leak down on it would be even better.
If things look good, ride it till fall. Then give it a good going over. You may be able to save the valves you have by refacing them and tipping them.
95% of the KZ heads I get, I can reuse the stock valves. Old bronze guides were junk. The later iron guides last a very long time..
