After the crank is welded, there is NO changing of the rods correct?

So do you put in new rods before you weld or is that not a big deal.

Or is the real question for regular normal street/highway cruising is it not any advantage to weld the crank anyway.

just trying to add to the knowledge base in the old noodle.

stock kawi rods and bearings are really tough if your building a hotrod street bike or a small inch dragb ike the normal procedure is to make sure the crank is true the roods bearings are in good shape then you weld the pins to the flywheels so the crank can not twist under heavy loads if you need to replace a rod or bearing you just grind the weld down and press the crank apart normally unless your going to a big inch dragbike you just weld up the stock crank that came in your engine and go have fun.

You mean to tell me the crank is pressed together and after welding the rods cannot be unbolted. In other words no rod caps? I never knew this after 30 yrs of ownership. No more KZ1000s for me, I'll stay with the 650s. :)

Yup, one piece rods.

Dman,

If your bike is stock and you're doing just street/highway riding with the occasional trip to the track then you don't really have a reason to weld the crank. If you have to split the cases for another reason then go ahead and have the crank welded so it'll be ready for future upgrades. Make sense?
