There are adjustment points in the clutch cable. If the cable's too tight, then the clutch won't fully engage. I'd start there.

there is a main adjuster underneath the small cover onthe sproket cover adjust it there if you have a manual follow the steps they should be in the maintenence section. i always back my cables right off and do my main adjustment down there then do my fine adjustments at the cable then at the lever.

yes it sounds like the cable routing is off just a bit . do you have any play at the lever. you should have at least an 1/8" of play at the lever when you turn the bars in both directions

The Kawasaki factory service manual describes the clutch adjustment procedure. It also has the replacement procedure if the adjustment doesn't help. If you don't have one they're always available on eBay. Be sure to get the correct one for your specific model. Ed

So slipping at high rpms means I need to adjust or replace the clutch?

It may, or it may mean that the clutch needs to be replaced. It depends on how many miles and how the clutch has been used or abused. If you adjust it and it still slips you'll need to replace. The good news is that if it needs replacing that isn't too difficult with a few tools and the manual. It should take less than 2 hours. Ed

Hehe, you really wanna replace that clutch, huh?

The fact that the issue worsened when you re-ran your cable strongly points to a cabling/adjustment issue. A clutch works on friction, so if it's partially engaged it will act just as you've described.

Of course, if you've already run the bike a lot with the clutch partially engaging, maybe you did burn it up. Smell anything funny lately?

Mine used to do that when I would hit the 5000-7000 RPM range in 3rd gear. I adjusted the cable, still had it, changed to non-synthetic oil, still had it. Finally replaced the fiber plates and springs and that did it. Odd thing was the plates and springs both measured within spec.
