Does anyone know what the running engine temp might be on the 1000 J motors? I'm getting my engine powder coated and just wanted to check and see before I picked out the paint.

Thanx,

Hi eclipse30gt.
Can't help you myself but there was a thread a while ago on here where someone had a fancy hi temp device and they listed temps on various parts of a kz engine. If I recall correctly the header temp was very high.[1300?].
All the Best.

just get something that will stand 500 degrees and that should be good for any engine parts, if they are getting hotter than that, your in big trouble anyway. liquid cooled's run around 230 when they are hot air cooled can run up to 100 to 150 degrees hotter than that.

for the pipes you should go with the highest temp stuff you can find. pipes can get very very very hot, up to 2000 degrees in some cases.

I painted my engine with DP series Epoxy primer and PPG Acrylic Enamel. Even around the exhaust ports on the head it's holding up without any bubbling or peeling. When I first got my GPZ running I used a IR temp gun, the temp's I got at the back of the cyl's was around 250F. I thought it would be be hotter, apparently the fins do a good job at getting rid of the heat.
