Hi guys
I've been lurking for a while this winter.
I picked a 75 KZ400 to build for my wife to learn to ride.
I did it in a Low Rider style. She couldn't sit flat footed on the stock bike.
Any way, I finally got it outside and started it up.
It seemed to run OK. Yesterday When I went to start it I got a loud squeeling sound. This morning I turned it over again and it started right up, but seems to have a knock.
I think it's in the top half.
I don't know much about these bikes.
Any ideas?

Thanks
Pat

Was it cold out? My 76 kz 400 squeels like like a pig when its cold out and it gets started. The knocking is probally again due to the fact there was no to little oil in the top end. I would say to let it warm up and take it for a ride and see if the knock goes away.

there is not a tensioner on the primary chain and they can make a bit of noise when they are on the sidestand, does the noise change when you right the bike? also balancing the carbs can help some.

pull in the clutch and see if the noise goes away, or as has been suggested get the carbs sync'd.

The twins seem to be notorious for bad starter clutches. I read they can make noise.
