Stupid question, please help a dumb guy out! was created by Pro_window78
I just got a new points housing for my kz1000 78 model a2 (thanks buzz!!) Any way my question is regarding the seal. I assume it's the crank seal. I am seriously hoping it just pops on and I won't need to split the cases. Am I correct? Any expertise would be appreciated. - Ryan

Ryan, seal in question is indeed, crank/points seal, no bigggie, simply installs from inside of points cover housing. I like to goop w/ assy lube, and make sure lip stays true to crank w/install.G

Ryan,
You're welcome.
There is no seal on the crank or in the engine.
The seal in the cover keep the oil where it belongs.
The seal in the cover is pretty new and you shouldn't have to replace it.
Just take your old cover off, install a new gasket and install the new cover.
NOTE:
It looks like the gasket will fit either way but it won't. the gasket only goes on one way so be careful.

Crap, I didn't think about the gasket. I guess I better get a new one, or are those reuseable?

Whether or not you can reuse the original gasket depends on the condition of the gasket and if comes off of the current housing without being damaged.
If the gasket comes off of the old housing in one piece and looks to be okay then put some sealer on it and use it again.
Make sure you notice how the original housing comes off of the bike and put the newer housing back on the same way.
The small slot on the housing goes on the bottom so the ignition leads can route out under the bottom of clutch housing.
Good luck,
Buzz
