Cam/timing chain breakage? was created by TeK9iNe
Hi all...

Got my engine all in pieces and when I pulled out the cam/timing chain and had a good look at it, it had links missing out of it all over the place! :(

Its a hyvo style chain where theres 5 links sandwiched together per section. 5 of the middle links and 1 of the outside links where just randomly gone!

Me thinks I should be thanking the KZ gods for it not breaking whilst in motion!

My question is... what would cause this random breakage?

Age?
Wear damage?

The teeth on all the cam/crank gears look fine!?!

Whaa?

loose tensioners ,tight tensioners, age, very hard deceleration, poor chain quality, worn tensioners the reasons are many and varied and that is one of the main reasons when i split the cases on a motor i always replace the cam chain with out fail they take a pounding and they are cheap to replace compared to a new engine very cheap insurance.
