Oil filter washer was created by Ozzyzed
Hi zedders
On throwing my old oil filter on 77 1000A1 I discovered the washer stuck to the filter. Now obviously it was there for a purpose but is it vital it goes back on (which means a buying oil again, only two days old!!) I was thinking about draining the oil and putting it back in but also being aware that I have a dirty garage, well you know the story. I guess given the 'current economic climate' I was hoping to not have to purchase another four litres of the black gold.
Cheers Oz

It keeps the spring from digging into the filter. I'd say drop the oil into a clean container and reuse it after configuring the oil filter as it should be.

I went years and many oil changes without that washer on my KZ650C1 before I noticed in the service manual that there was suppose to be one in there. Either I accidentally tossed it during the first oil change or it wasn't there from the factory. In either case, it didn't hurt a thing. Of course, I have one in there now and I remember to check for it when I change the oil. Assuming you change your oil on a regular basis, you can probably wait till the next change without a problem. if you are worried about it, then you could add some seafoam to your oil, run it for another few days then re-change the oil (yeah with 4 new quarts ) the up side would be a nice engine clean-out.
but if it was me, I wouldn't worry...actually I never saw any washer when I changed my oil, so I am guessing my bike has been missing it as well (something for me to check on in about 500 miles)

My SR lacked the washer when I got it. It has one now, but I don't know how long it went without. Going an oil change interval without it probably won't hurt a thing.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I agree, as I went like 100,000 miles without the washer, so it's not a vital part, but if it makes you feel any better you can just drop the filter and put the washer on and lose <quart of oil. Oil in the pan can be left there and won't drain when you remove the filter.
