1973 z1 900 motor differences? was created by z19OO
Picked up a low vin# z1 900 motor today. I see the cylinder doesn't have the groove for the o-ring......is that '73 z1 only? Anything else different?

Ask at www.aperaceparts.com or www.redlinecycle.com They are but a few of old bike engine rebuilders that have the knowledge to answer your question.

Those cylinders are used up through engine Z1E-14317. They are fairly hard to find, so you may want to consider reselling the engine if it's still in good condition.

What is the engine number?

I don't know anyone specifically - but there are far more people interested in 72/73 Z1 engines. One of the local guys here just sold just a set of engine cases for $400...

The heads are also unique on engines under Z1E-02200 - the vacuum take-off is in the head, not the carb holders.
