I have a KZ100st e1 I know my oil filter spring is missing the washer, is this washer what they call the spring seat? I'm not sure how important that part is but my bike is missing it?

They are missing because they stick to the filter with the oil and are thrown away accidently if you aren't aware it is there. The function is purely to distribute the spring pressure evenly on the rubber. I'd need more info as to function to believe it would hurt anything to have it missing. Definately does not effect the oil filtration in any way, shape or form.

it doesn't have any effect on flow but it can allow the spring to cut in to the seal on the oil filter and also deform it.

Correct!!! The first filter change I gave my bike, the washer was "under" the spring and the rubber seal on the fiter was deformed! You do need the washer, and it goes on between the spring and the filter!

I went for many years and miles without it. Probably at least 100,000 miles without any hint of a problem. I knew it wasn't there and just never got around to replacing it as it is an expensive part and a real bear to replace. I really don't know why, but it never bothered my filter having it missing on a KZ650 anyway.
