kz650 splitting cases....help was created by pburnhamb
Im trying to split the cases on my kz650. Do i need to remove the secondary shaft, oil pump and clutch to remove the top case?
im trying to get it off so i can work it a bit and fit the 750 cyl-block on there.
thank you-patrick

No, should be able to get the upper case off. Do you have the motor removed from the frame. There's a bolt on the back of the cases that is tricky getting out with the motor in the frame but it can be done.

Mark, the engine is out of the frame. i have all 13 bolts on top, 6-6mm bolts and the 10-numbered 8mm bolts on the bottom off. I see you have the clutch on in your picture. do I in fact need to take the oil pump and seconday shaft out. I know the manual says to take it out, but its this junker clymer manual and i dont see the need to pull the pump and shaft to get the top case off. am i wrong? anyone done this b-4? someone-anyone?
thanks
thanks

Correct you can leave the clutch and pump and secondary shaft in. The pic I posted was when I was putting 750 barrels on my 650.You need to remove the 13 bolts from the top then turn the cases over and remove all the main bearing bolts [10] and one more bolt on the back of the cases. the oil pan needs to be off to get to the main bearing bolts.
Good luck Mark

No worries Patrick, that's what were here for. The Kawasaki manual says you need to remove the pump and secondary shaft too but it's not necessary.
