High compression for the street was created by Knight Rider
The Knight Rider wants to run 1200 13.5 to 1 pistons on the street, I know in a perfect world that 10.25 to 1 would probably be better, but school teacher gave me permission to thrash his MTC. pistons. I do have a big oil cooler and plan on running raceing gas,110 or above octane, as long as i stay out of traffic jams can i get away with this set up on the street, or will it be a major major headache. Thanks in advance for any feedback. P.S. ported head, 435cams welded crank, ect, ect.

As long as you stay away from red light and use the right gas you should be ok.

ive done it several times, unless you spend majority of time street racing in alaska id suggest 9:1-10.25:1 with smaller cams.the motor your describing makes real power from around 6000 up depending on your carbs B)

ive run several 1170s with 13:1 pistons and bigger cams than those on the street like i said they pull like like a freight train from around 6000 rpms on up,but they tend to be tempermental dogs in the lower rpms .the 1197 in my 74 z1 im building the 1385 for was a 13:1 motor with some head work was a psychotic bitch to ride and you sure as hell didnt want to spend lots of time idling in hot weather with it.once i put smaller cams i think they are around 410s in that motor now and a set of 29s in place of 33s( i also used 28s on that motor for a while)it turned into a lot more streetable motor that was still too much for stock chassis but atleast it was predictable! if you want to run really good fuel the higher compression is fine, but youre also limiting your cruising range to where you can get good fuel, you can pull timing out of it to make it run on cheap gas but then youre gonna have overheating problems thats why im leaning towards big inch lower compression stumppulling motors these days.

when do you need to start bracing the frame? 1200? 1300+?

its more of a hp thing than cc's especially on a z1 theyre pretty flimsy with a stock motor once you start getting aound 100 hp i think some sort of beefing is a really good idea.the blue z1 is getting a 1385 turbo stuffed in it so i went a little crazy with the bracing on it.B)

So could Knight Rider lower the compression by adding a copper base gasket? Any problems with this? How thick would Knight Rider go?

Knight Rider talks about himself in the Nth dimension not third person!
