There was no Z1 model sold after 1975. If you mean a 1980 KZ1000A4 (standard MKII engine), the system should fit but you may have to fab hanging brackets.
As far as a KZ900 system fitting a KZ1000, keep in mind that the flanges on a KZ900 system will be drilled for 6mm studs and the KZ1000 has 8mm studs meaning you may have to open up the holes to allow for the larger studs.
MAC makes a 4 into 2 that is inexpensive but they use turn-out mufflers which are not very nice looking, IMHO. I have an older set of black ceramic MAC 4 into 2 pipes on my bike with flared ends and I chose them for the look... I like it. The problem with MAC stuff is that it isn't all that great as far as fit and finish being at a lower price point. You have to use some muscle to bend the head pipes to make them fit and the flanges didn't have much material when drilling them out for the 8mm studs but I did get them on. One muffler went in all the way and one muffler just wouldn't go even though I beat it till I was tired. I ended up having to fabricate a piece of metal to go from the mount on the bike to the the hanger on the pipe. I couldn't get that muffler out of the head pipe down piece if I tried... it is JAMMED. Next 4 into 2, I will check out that system Patton showed from Z1E as it is probably better quality.
