1981 CSR1000 Head question... was created by Randall the Vandal
On an '81 csr1000, is that a j-head? Also, are all cylinders on the 1000's the same? If I was to buy an 1175 kit with the cylinders included, do I need to be aware of anything? Thanks yall!

thanks...this is my first "top end" job on my own. these are pretty simple engines, almost scary. i've had an 82 kz1100 moth balled for about 10 years but after jumping into this csr, i'm kickin myself in the ass for not wrenching on it sooner.

Unless you meant 1075, you will have to bore the cases. If it is an 1170 in a GPZ block, make sure it is the early 17mm pin style.

he did ask if all 1000 cylinders were the same and the answer is no.
a j motor has different cam chain idlers then a kz motor.
totally different animal inside.
you must use a j block on a j motor and vice versa.
and as APE JAY said, a gpz uses 18 mm wristpins, a regular j uses 17 mm wristpins.

not as confusing as it sounds. got some pictures so we can help you more?

someday i will be able to afford my kz habit.

yeah, i meant 1075. i bought this thing for $500 and it is really clean and complete (minus right side cover of course). it has 35k on it and leaks oil bad so i went ahead and removed the top end. i was thinking of a big bore kit while i had it down and i saw a thread here where you can get a complete kit with the block included. i've never actually done a top end and thought it was about time to experience it. i'm pretty savvy on the tech stuff, just never went the distance.

The early GPZ uses 17 mm pins. The 83, 84 with the bathtub head uses 18s.
