I have two Kz 1000's one is a 79 and other is a 81 the numbers on the motors are as follows. KZT00AE093551 and KZT00AE079656. If anyone can tell me what the difference is between the two would be very helpful, Also is one better than the other? I will be building a Drag Bike and want the the most HP of the two.

how big of a motor do you plan on going with and what size of tire are you gonna run also what wheelbase on gas or on nitrous see many questions need to be asked what do you have for carbs ,strictly for the track or street ridden as well, how much homework have you done the 1979 is a mk11 and the 81 is a j motor i myself prefer to use the earlier model cases as the seem to be a bit easier to get hot-rod pieces. there are lots of aftermarket suppliers for these engines so it is all up to how big your wallet is. by the way welcome aboard you have come to the right place.

You have the old style 1015cc motors for both...one is perhaps a year newer than the other...although one or both might be the MKII motor (that will depend on more specific info about the motor and/or the frame numbers that accompany these motors). If the 1981 bike is truly a 1981, then in order to have the old style motor in it (without a motor swap) then you must have a 1981 'C' or police bike. Neither motor is a 'J' motor (the 6th digit would be a 'J'...the 'A' tells us that the motor came from an A (standard), B (LTD), or C (police) bike)...Kawasaki used the same motor in all three styles. In 1981 Kawasaki went to 'J' motors (998cc) except for the 1981 'C' bike which was produced with the old style engine.

Timebomb- I plan on going with a 1320cc and also will keep it a small tire bike for now. I have rode big tire bikes and they seem to move around more LOL! I would like to do a swing arm swap or have mine extended want to go about 4in over. I dont want to run a wheelie bar so i can run in the street class.
Mcdroid- Thanks for the info on the motors! The frame on the 81 indeed says 81 dont think it is a police bike unless someone has done a very good conversion to a reg Kz? I have noticed a difference on the shifter side. Right above the lever it has a differnt cover than the 79 does. So im gueesing they both are the same motors 1015cc just one is newer? I have worked on motorcycles and cars all my life just have not built one from ground up and i dont think i could have picked a better bike to do!
Thanks again for all your help. I'm going to use the 79 for the Drag Bike it just has more of a hot rod stance and i like the tank and seat better on that one. So im gonna leave my 81 together that way i can have something to go by when i start going back together.
THANKS AGAIN GUYS!!!!!

Numbers on frames are as follows. One 12-80 JKAKZCJ1-IBA003455 and also below this number is KZTOOJ. The other is 11-78 KZT00B-516309. I have clear titles on both and would trade one of these frames for a drag frame if someone has one?
