First time posting but I've lurked and learned a lot of good info from this site.I thank everyone that takes time to answer questions and help other KZ owners out.I just got done shimming my valves on my '83 650 CSR and as ELR and others say I kept them close to .006 on intake and exhaust. Thanks to Z1R Enterprises I had 4 shims in my mailbox in 2 days-awesome!! I'm just wondering if I should re check clearances after a good running.Maybe 100 miles or so? Does anyone else do this.I figure it won't hurt as it's about 4 degrees in Connecticut and I've got the time. This bike screams now and runs a whole lot better.Does anyone else recheck or just set and forget?

Once I check the gaps(cold), and adjust, then I recheck again just to make sure. I never forget it, checking the gaps once a year.

I'm sure I'll re-check them this spring because I just can't leave well enough alone!I only had #3 intake with less than .003 that's about .7mm -out of spec!! This bikes got 11,000 miles and it's never been touched until now. It's a nice machine with plenty of power. Thanks Corey.

I usually spin it by hand a few times to seat the shims and recheck them before I button everything back up.

It's always a good idea after replacing shims to turn it over a few times and check again. The shim may be sitting on an oil film and not bedded in.

Definitely use the kickstarter to crank the engine over for a while and then recheck clearances. My manual says check every 3000 miles.

1983 was the last year of the 650.No kicker on these.I turned the crank nut about 100 revolutions and counted the 45-46 links in the cam chain about 60 times,I must have checked measurements on each cam-lifter about 20 times too.I'm hoping I'm good.It fired right up in this 10 degree weather and never sounded better. All is good so far on my and the bikes first valve adjustment.

Now would be the time to vacuum sync the carbs, after that very thurough valve clearance recheck. Makes all the difference in the world. No vacuum sync tool? Bench sync them since it's too cold to ride. It's better than nuthin'.

Ya synch is next.I use 8' of tubing and Marvel Mystery Oil as fluid.Works good and it does no damage if it gets sucked up.The motor definetly sounds better now that #3 intake is behaving.Maybe tomorrow I'll do some carb tweaking.
