i have a lockhart philips oil cooler setup made for a 1977-81 kz650 i was wondering if theres any easy way to adapt the included fitings to my 1979 kz1000 mkII

I don't think so, they have different oiling systems. That funny shaped oil diverter is the thought part to find on the 650's the other way is to use the GPZ 750 pan on a 650. On the 1000's the oil pick up is behind the jugs.

how do i hook up the oil cooler to the 1000 then. i see there are two caps. one on the pickup behind the cylinder and one on the right side of the crankcase in front of the clutch cover.

The 82 (and maybe 81) GPZ1100's have a oil cooler plumbed into the oil system below the injector bodies on the back of the engine. The website www.earlsserviceshop.com might have the parts that will work for you, if not try www.oldkawman.com as he will part out a bike now and then.

I was told that a gpz550 oil pan would bolt on to a kz650 engine? that so any one know for sure?

1975 Z1 X 2 one i've had since new [many thanks to a great dad whos now since past]i've seen my son eyeing it every now and then.has 1075 kit,yosh cams,yosh pipe,29 smthbrs,rearsets.
