starter engagement was created by jzanutto
hey all, I've picked up a 78 KZ650B fairly cheaply for a restoration project.

I have a question about how the starter engages. The starter spins a spur gear in the trans, what does that gear turn? and how does it engage, because this one just spins, if I push the gear over with my finger I can feel it engage the engine, but it wont do it under normal start.

I know I'm going to be splitting cases, but what am I looking for?

any links to a manual for that bike?

thanks
JZ

If/if your starter clutch needs to be overhauled, you CAN do that without splitting the cases. There is a sticky or a thread on here, IIRC, about this very procedure. It was all discussed about 3 or 4 months ago, I believe. Do a search on the term starter clutch and you'll probably come up with the thread.
