1200 kit - red line? was created by supercharged
OK I just got another bike and it was modified, to what extent... don't know. It has an MTC block and 40mm RS carbs. The bike is wildly fast off the line and it was apparently was used for drag - all safety wired....

It has a Dyna Rev Limiter, but my question is what is a safe max RPM for a bike block bike? Can these old timers handle anything into the 10K range. It seems that I wack the throttle and the tach is buried. Almost to big for the street.

Make it worse... I'm used to sportbikes with a smooth power curve, this raw power closely resembles the supercharged bike.

Any input on determining the actual bore would be good too.

If I recall, redline is typically limited by where the valves float so heavier duty valve springs help. The machine shop that worked my head over said he thouight it was good for maybe 10k, but that doesn't prove anything.

well if its got a bigblock its safe to say its atleast an 1197.big inch motors will turn high rpms just like the little ones if theyre put together right, but theres really no reason on a streetbike .put some smaller carbs in the 33 range and a streetable set of cams in there and youll be suprised just how much fun a shitload of bottemend torque is on a streetbike!B) B) B) B) B)

If it's been built as a race motor, then it's life may be very short on the street. You need to check the lift of the cams, and see what the valves, valve retainers are made of - titanium components don't last very long.

I did buy it for the parts - so I took it out and beat the crap out of it:woohoo: ... I can't wait for mine to be done.

I did notice some oil leaking from the head gasket now... not sure if I did that or not. Since it was running so strong, 1st of the year I will bring it in to an engine builder and have him review it and tell me just what it is made of.

The compression ratio must be high... making it a hard start from the starter... and with the MTC block and 40mm carbs, it just might be a ~1,300.

Since I had some time... I torqued the head - seems like everything was just barely beyond hand tight.

Lesson to be learned... when buying a bike you know nothing about... CHECK IT OVER before beating the crap out of it... or even riding it.

I may have blown the gaskets when all it needed was a proper torquing. Will be interesting to see what the inside has...

Big block pistons start at 1260cc.My LA sleeves in a stock block can be bored to 1197cc max.
the red line should be estimated by the cams, springs, and head work. Then there is the internal clearances? piston to valve and valve to valve clearances?????
The cam lift, and springs, valve size(bigger valves are heavier) will tell u something about the mechanical limitations, and the head flow will determine the powers falloff point(need a dyno to see it.).
High lift cams recommended for drag only (.480" lift)are recommended for 20 passes down the track before replacement.
Even a small .425" lift cam can hit the valves if the springs are old when over revved. Been there done that.
Now one can say for sure what the max rpm will be, but a dyno run can help.
These are just generalized comments.
Hope it helps .

you can run 1197 with a bigblock, ive got 2 of them sitting in my shop.although on a streetbike i usually run up to 1197 with a stock block.;)

why don't you do something with this one as well it is obiously a runner and a damn good one if it can impress a guy with a blower bike it must be impressive. there are lots of other parts bikes out there to use up this one sounds too good for that fate.
