Checking valve clearance found #4 exhaust just a smig out about .0005 all the rest were in. Should I mess with one now or wait? 1979 zk650 c3 10,600 miles

A noisey valve is a happy valve. I'd adjust it to give it a little more gap, or rotate the engine by hand and recheck the clearance.

Indymick:
Is it too tight....or too loose ???

If it's too tight then it's not going to get better, soooo...best get it shimmed properly now rather than later.

If it's too loose, no biggy....unless it's at the top end of the allowable clearances. In that case, it will need shimming.

the range is from .08mm to .18mm it is probly .182mm just barely out on that side the others are all close to .15mm I would need the next bigger shim to put it back in range.

i own a lot of feeler gauges and ive never seen one yet that was accurate to the .ooo5" i'd give it a good hard run and recheck it again. or roll it around a few times and see if it changes it's not tight enough to worry about.

If it's not a modified engine and/or you're not racing it then I wouldn't worry about that small a difference outside the range. It'll just be noisier than it should....and if you can live with that then everything's okay.:cheer:
