at least to a 650 newbie like me.;) :cheer:
I just acquired an early 650D1 motor for practicing things like valve clearance checking and cam removal/installation/indexing/timing. I've never owned a shimmed-valve type engine before so this is all new to me...
and I wouldn't want to bend any valves in my C2 when I'm doing the work for real, would I!!!:ohmy:
Annnyyyywayyy, while messing around with the D1 engine I went to drain the oil and found out that the sump drain plug is wayyyyy over on the left side of the engine rather than in the middle of the sump like the C (and I assume the B as well) engines have. Something to do with the exhaust arrangement and/or frame rail placement, no doubt.
I believe/believe that you'd have to change sumps if you were swapping a D engine into a B/C frame with STOCK exhausts....and vice-versa.
Can anyone verify/enlighten me on this whole thing ?? Or am I all wet here???:silly:

Edit: Hmmmm....Kawasaki.com shows the same part number for the sump casting on both the C2 and the D1. Is my memory of the drain plug location on my C2 for shite??? She's all put away in the garden shed for the winter with a nice glacier forming in front of the door so I can't get in to take a look.:angry:

I just had to go look at my C2, even though I just drained the oil about 2 weeks ago, and have had her since the '80s.
The drain is "wayyyyy over on the left side of the engine".
