Is there anyone running a V&H sidewinder-type header on their 900 or 1000? I'm wondering what chassis mods really have to be done for them to fit. The PCO pipe, the one I really want, says that the front end must be lowered. Is that true?

I know that the brake pedal can hit the pipe on some models, but I have Tarozzi Rearsets, so I think I'm OK there, but not sure. Also, I currently have a lock-up clutch installed and I think the cover w/spacer might hit the pipe.

Anyone actually have one of these bolted on?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

the pco pipe has to have the frame raked, the lock-up cover won't hit the pipe but you will have problems with the brake pedal iwould load a picture of my bike but i can't seem to get it to fit on here so go to picture 242 in the z1900 gallery to see mine with that very pipe on and a lock-up.

I want to run a vance and hines sidewinder on my z1. I was talking to donthekawguy, he was running one on his 78 1000 i think, he only had to modify the rear break pedal. He didnt have to rake the frame, but i dont think he ran the pco pipe either. Maby he will chime in later on.

the pco pipe is a lot bigger phisically. the head pipes are bigger i.d and in order to bend them with out kinking them they have a bigger radius.also the collector is bigger and so isn't the megaphone. the sportsman pipe will fit in a unraked frame but you can't lower the bike much before you run into a problem of bottoming the fender in to the pipe when the suspension compresses. so be careful. i have seen people crash because of that.that is one of the main reasons a raked frame works well with that pipe.

If i do put the sportsman pipe on im not going to lower it any. But the stock z1 4 into 4 pipes are calling my name everytime i go in the garage.

I run a PCO but I can't really say what mods are needed to a stock bike. I have a FZR front end which has a 17in wheel so I gain some clearance there. With the FZr front and rear end the bike is lowered alot so I am not sure what kind of trouble I will have with my right turns. I love the pipe though. The head pipes mount to spiggots by way of springs. Take the 4 springs off and remove the rear bolt and the pipe comes right off. Only takes about 30 seconds to get it off. Sounds fierce too!

I really like that PCO pipe - not only because of the spigot and spring system, but the oversized tubes would really help my engine breath. It's a 1260cc now and the V&H street megaphone doesn't seem to be cutting it.

I'm running an 18" low profile tire up front, so that would help, but I'm not sure if it's enough since I have the stock rake.

I could try one and hope they take returns if it doesn't work, but I'm not crazy about going through all that.

Do you guys think the brake pedal and footpeg would be OK since I'm running tarozzi rear sets? I'll try to find a better picture to post, but here's one that kind of shows the current set up:

try using the vance and hines sportsman pipe it is cheap last one i bought was 215.00 from parts unlimited and you can put a baffle in it if need be the head pipes are i 1/2 inches so the bends aren't as big, so that should give you a bit more room. the rearsets that you have wont clear the pco pipe that pipe is big but the sportsman pipe might

79MKII, is that an Ohio plate I see? Post your pocation and maybe someone close to you has a pipe that you could use to test. You are welcome to use mine but I am in Rochester, NY so might be a bit far.
