clutch won't disengage was created by jimmybon
After sitting for 3 or 4 months through winter Australia, my clutch won't disengage, z650hybrid,
I've checked that the shaft from the clutch mech is actually pushing and adjusted correctly

I've had the motor running for 20min to get it warm and tapped the engine case with timber on the engine number area above the clutch, still won't free up.

I thought maybe use a hot air gun on the clutch through the filler cap and change the oil

any idears as to what can cause this?

I've gotten past such a problem by tying the clutch lever to the grip for a few days and occasionally working the rear wheel back and forth while the transmission's engaged.

Most of the time the plates are just stuck with cold oil. I forget did you change the oil already? Was there any moisture in it?

As Kieth suggested, it's not difficult to disassemble the clutch plates, should you have to.

I here were your comming from with the moisture thing

I just got of the phone to a mate that had the same problem with hi GTS900 79 duke, he reckons its a moisture build up on the plates,

I'm going to warm the engine again and drop the oil and filter. While thats draining I'll scoot down to work and get the hot air gun
cheers

OK, the heat gun was a waste of time

so I started to rock the back wheel wilst on the center stand with the clutch lever tired on, I can see the clutch though the filler hole move, as the wheel hit each end of the play in first gear, then I tryed to change the gears as i rocked the back wheel, slipped into neutral then 2nd the third then rocked a little harder and u could see that the pressure was increased to the clutch then she freedup

I'll put that gasket into stock

New castrol grand pri 15w50 mineral going in

cheers
