I second that too. I have a set of ape plates. I was told that completely filling those holes makes a decent improvement in performance by some guy who was dragging his bike on the strip. Does anyone know about this? Has anyone else done it? I have my head off of my bike right now and if it would be a noticeable gain I would do it to mine as well however I have no idea about what would be the best way to do this.

That's it. Other than that the little can on the base of the block that one of the hoses goes in to could use a nice little angled hose pipe to keep stuff from going in there although I have run mine without I was told it was a really good idea to at least put an air filter over that hole.nice plates, what else do you need to do besides block these ports to "DE" smogg these motors? I have a 79 1000 B3.
Thanks

I'm doing it simply for cosmetic reasons. I can't imagine how it could impact performance.

I would be interested in any perfomance gains as well ... I guess I'll find out soon enough. I'm rebuilding my carbs right now so that should help things too .... plus I'm gonna adjust the valves and cam chain ... so with all of this maintenance any performance gains from the block off plates should prove to be a plus !!!
As for cosmetics ... I think they look great .... much nicer than the ugly rubber tubes !

So, I finally got around to doing some work on the KZ today, and I thought I'd post up a picture for posterity. The plates look f'ing sweet. Thanks again, Dale.
