On the inside of the valve-cover,remove the "crosses",and that should get you enough clearance, but check it to be sure.

Not sure why the stock pistons are a problem?...maybe the valve relief is not deep enough to accomodate the lift.?... That would be a major problem.

page number 48 grind number 118 for a true drop-in-cam with considerably better performance over stock. I ran this cam with stock pistons and springs for 1 season and was very happy with the performance over stock..then came the 1075 kit.
One note of caution: after 30 years, the stock valve springs and old cam chain guide components may or may not be up to the task. If you have the time and money, it would be worth pulling the head to freshen things up.

APE says "performance valve springs required" and "will not work with stock pistons" Check out:

If you have us do the head, we can cam clearance it for you at the same time.

The head needs cam clearance and Valve Springs are required. Your MTC pistons will have enough clearance.

If not using this particular bike in racing or drag strip where every ounce of power is required... Drop to a .365, .384 where you most probably will not have to do any cover modification. Not sure but possibly .395 CAM configuration!
The more experienced can chime in but I can't see where there's going to be that much of a significant difference in power between a .384/.395 and .410 setup...
Most probably I'm wrong...
