I have a 77 KZ650B engine on a modified 78 KZ650D1 frame.

Last year, yes is has been down that long, I was on the highway in heavy traffic. A lot of shifting because of stop and go. Got stuck in 3rd and would not come out. Then, after pulling the engine and tilting it back on the ass end, it changes through the gears. Lay it flat on the pan and it will not change gears again.

Suggestions before I crack the case. Thanks in advance.

Nevermind. Under the gear shifter assem cover I have a broken spring on the lobster claws that are supposed to be pressured against the shift drum.

Well not too bad. But why the year wait? I'd have been climbing the walls.

Ouch.... :pinch:

That's like a $6 spring or somewhere near that and your bike was down a year!

Unfortunate as it may be, at least you have it figured out now. Since the motor is out, any other motor work you want to get done, now's the time.

Oh sure, right... How many times did I hear you guys bust my balls over/when I snapped a whole in my engine case... :pinch:

Yeah, that wasn't one of my finest moments...

Canis, you'll be a extremely lucky SOB if you don't hear about this again from one of these demented and devious whack-o's!

That's why I love you guys....
