KZ650 Cam Chain Roller Question was created by 77_650B1
So I took apart my engine, and the shafts for my cam chain rollers dont have those rubber rectangular deals on the end, they're just round shafts. Whats my deal? Is it because it's Canadian?

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

77s didn't have them at least at the first of the run. 78s all had them. Some 77s may have them later in the production year. I'm not exactly sure when they were added, but it was in that time frame. My 77s don't have them either. They were added to quiet the camchain area down. I can't tell any difference myself and since the rubbers turn to plastic whithin 1000 miles of install, I think the advantage is nil.

Cool, I thought it might be something like that. And its funny because they say to check them for wear. Maybe the ones with the rubbers wear out easier, mine aren't worn appreciably. My internals are in surprisingly good shape actually.
Now I just gotta get everything straightened out for 810cc!!

There were a whole bunch of changes made to the cam chain idlers and tensioner from engine serial number 054600 onwards....so the rubber blocks may have been one of those changes. They were probably added in an effort to reduce the chain noise transmitted to/through the block and head. God forbid that the customer would actually be able to hear what was happening in the engine.....
