Front Sprocket Issues... was created by clutch
Hey guys,

I'm doing some maintenance on the bike ('80 kz250) and am having issues with the front (engine) sprocket removal. There is a toothed washer that has one end bent so far up against the retaining nut that I can't get anything between them to bend it down. I was hoping someone may have some tips, or had the same issue and found an easy way to get it off. I'm thinking that I may have to damage that washer to remove it and just get another one.

Thanks in advance,

Clutch

p.s.: I order a set of rear brake shoes for the bike, but the ones I got are just barely too big to fit in the drum. If anyone is interested in taking them off me at cost let me know....otherwise I'm returning them. Part # is 602A(EBC brand). I paid $15.74 US (I'm asking price plus shipping to you...no fees!)...I'm just glad all the wheel bearings, oil seals, etc fit! :)

I don't have that bike but is sounds like a typical safety lock washer. usually you can get between them with a cold chisel and bend the tab back down to get to the nut. be sure to bend it back, it keeps the nut from coming off.

Oh I know that it needs to be bent back. I fully understand its purpose....just having a hard time getting it off. I'm still waiting for the new sprockets to come in, but since I got all the new bearings and such on, I think I'm going to go for a ride with the old chain and sprocks tomorrow to make sure it's riding smoothly. I will definitely try the hammer and screwdriver trick (no chisel in my garage) when the parts get here.

Thanks for the tips guys,

Go to a dollar store and get a flat screwdriver, grind down the end so it is sharp. It will get under it and you have another tool. Throw it in the Kawasaki special tool drawer. B)

Or use the blade on a cheap pocketknife.
