Im lookin to put together a hot street engine. Iv read in this forum that the big blocks make the engine run hot. Is this true and if so what is the biggest I can go with the stock cylinders and still be reliable? What do u guys think? 1982 KZ1000ltd

I know that its been answered here before. You can go either 1170 or 1260 with the stock block. The block wil have to be resleeved. Stick with the 1170 and a moderate, i.e. 10.5:1 CR. The 1170 will still keep some meat in the sleeve's wall thickness so it won't distort as easily while sitting in traffic. I know more about the early ('73-'80) engines so I won't be as much help as some of the other guys here.

Oh and the "Search Forum" function will help you get more answers than what I have.

Using the stock cylinder and stock liners, you can go up to 1105cc in a 1000 cylinder. I suggest using only a 1075 as this will leave more meat on the liners and the difference between a 1075 and 1105 isn't enough to worry about. If you want to install bigger liners, then 1200 is the biggest I'd go on a street motor although they will bore out to 1260. Reason is to keep more meat on liner to help hold cylinder roundness. An 1170 like StreetfighterKZ will keep even more meat on the liners which is always good. 10:5-1 compression is best for street applications also. Either motor size with .395-.425 lift cams, some port work and bigger carbs will give you a hard running motor that will give you that "rush" you are looking for and live. A big-block will work on the street but they do run hot and you don't want to get caught in traffic for long. Some say oil coolers help but how much I don't know. Easiest would probably be to stay in stock cylinders with either a 1075cc or 1170cc-1200cc though.
