Engine sputtering during acceleration. was created by Num8ber2003
1982 kz1000 ltd.
Bike has been sitting for awhile, although it has sat awhile before without any problems now it sputters, during acceleration bike not pulling as strong as it should.
Bike starts fine and if on center stand engine revs up strong without sputtering.
Can anyone offer any suggestions?
It's a lifestyle, not a hobby.

Since no-one has gotten back to you I will try my best....
Did you check the spark plugs (replace with new ones)
Did you check the fuel level in the carbs?
How do the points look?
Check the fuel line for air leaks? (I found mine was split and sucking air at high rpm's with lack of fuel - power loss and sputter)
Just a couple of simple suggestions.
Hopefully some of the more experienced members will chime in and help out.
Get some seafoam and clean the carbs.
Good riding.

Just another suggestion.
Has the gas been sitting awhile also ?
Might just be old gas and gone off. Perhaps dump the old and put in some fresh.

Determine if the problem is either fuel delivery or spark as both can be confusing as to what is going on. The coils if stock may be breaking down, sparkplug wires are going to ground, sparkplug caps failing. Just some areas to check...

Thanks to all you guys for the responses.
All seem to be very good suggestions.
Let me say this, all that you guys mentioned
could be possibilities.
The gas has been sitting for a while, and I have
had air in the fuel line once before which cause the
engine to turn over but it would not start.purged the air
and the bike ran like a charm. Will certainly look into it again.
I added some techron and stabil to the old fuel and are just about to run it out. bought some seaform and will run
it through with some fresh gas. If that does not work I have a new tank I want to install and will check the fuel lines and filter at that time.
Problem could still be electronic in nature, but I guess I will cross that bridge when I have too.....
Anyway thanks to you all for responding.
If anyone else has any ideas I will be gald to hear them.
