clutch grabs was created by mark1122
I have a new clutch cable on my bike. I broke the old 1 last season. It worked fine until now. i have only a couple thousand miles on it. The clutch just started to grab a bit yesterday.
if i am at a stop light it will not engage smoothly. it feels grabby. if i let it out a bit it will start to engage then as i continue to let it out nothing happens, then a bit further out it will grab hard?
I oiled the cable this morning and it continues to get worse.
Any ideas?

is your temp gauge mounted in your filler plug because that oil temp seems to be a bit high. pull your plates and see if they are blued or when im at the track and something like that happens i'll pull the clutch and im almost guarenteed that the 2 inside fibers will be broken. iknow your on a street bike but that motor of yours is pretty big and tourqey so who knows. after i did that i would drop the oil and try it again. you know the old saying oil is cheap parts aren't.

If not already done, would perform clutch push rod adjustment.

This adjustment may not help if grab isn't being caused by heat from slippage, but won't hurt.

Good Luck! :)

I'm using APE an clutch.
I have a thermometer in the oil gallery plug.
I guess I’ll just have to find the time to take it apart and check the actuator and plates.
I thought i would have too . I was just hoping there was some simple answer . lol. not usually.

I've had a grabby clutch when ever I use other than Kawasaki clutch discs. A buddy of mine has a high 7's low 8's drag bike and swears by Kawasaki discs.

Probably already been done. That's exactly why the clutch is all messed up.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I think i found the problem.
I removed the APE clutch plates, and heavy springs. The APE plates have 2 more plates than stock. Therefore the fiber plates are thinner. I noticed that the outer fingers of the fiber plates have worn grooves into where they contact the basket. These fingers if u will , must slide on the basket as they move in and out. the extra torque of my 1327cc's has worn these grooves so the plates grab as they try to travel. The springs have also started to ware grooves into the holes were they reside.
I put the stock plates and springs back in and ran it up and down the driveway. It seems fine now , but a longer ride is needed to be sure.
i will have to remove the basket and file the ridges smooth to complete the job over the winter.
