I have a KZ650B--1978. The other night when it was cold out (40 degrees), the engine was running or warming up for a good amount of time, but the bike would not go forward. I let it run and warm up for another long period of time and it would not go forward in first gear--so I let it warm up for another five minutes. Finally, the bike would let me go. After running on the interstate for twenty minutes, I came to several stop signs and the bike would let me go without a hitch each time. Is there a problem with the clutch plates? Yes, in Wisconsin it does get cold already in October.

If not already done, would perform clutch push rod adjustment.

Let us know if more info about this is needed.

Good Luck! :)

Hello: I want to thank those that responded to my problem about clutch plate problems. I made an adjustment to the clutch plate as suggested. It worked, I'll be darned:laugh:

What's interesting is: the cable midway has an adjustment to take up the slack in the clutch cable. I thought that the clutch cable play was sufficient for this fix.

The problem could have been too much oil, oil not changed, oil filter not changed,...
