You always need a wastegate unless you want the turbo to try to run as much boost as it possible can all the time.
Most engines and turbo can't handle that. A turbo can and will run out of its efficiency range(making lots of heat) if you let it.
However, you may need a blow-off valve in a blow-through setup, where you wouldn't need it in a draw-through setup.

In a blow-through situation the setup is like this...
Wastegate on exhaust side
Blowoff Valve on pressure side

Thank you all!!
So If I should make a blow trough turbo I do need a gasfeul pump to overwin the turbo pressure and the bowl also has to be pressurized??
When using a carb in front of the turbo inlet I do not have to do all this? only taking care of not overspinning the turbo (and pressure) by using an exhaust blow off just like Jailbait's picture?
second question: how do you turbo riders lubricate the turbo?? since a KZ has not such a high pressure and flow.
Would you recommend an electrical oilpump like mocal??

im going to run a seperate pump, possibly a complete seperate system for mine to maintain pressure to turbo bearings before and after shutoff since they continue to spin after after engine is turned off.
