Foggy KZ1000 oil window was created by KZDon
Here's a question from a friend of mine - any thoughts would be helpful.

My KZ1000 has a foggy, milky oil level window. It's got to the point where I can't tell the oil level at all anymore and I'm nervous about running it too low or too high.Anyone know an easy solution? I don't really want to take the whole cover off and I can't access it through the oil filler neck.
Maybe a simple oil change or some kind of commercial product would clean it off. I dunno. Any ideas out there?

You'll probably have to disassemble and clean the window. You might try a different oil first though. Using Shell Rotella-T diesel oil has gradually cleaned mine up, but it's not an overnight process, will take a long time to see much if any improvement.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

the easist way is to replace the window, the part is still avaiable from kawasaki, either that or get a used cover that is in good shape, it is condensation build-up from a leaking inner seal on the window. there is two pieces of glass in the window so you would have to somehow seperate them in order to be able to clean them properly and by doing that the 30+year old seal probably would'nt survive anyway.

Z1E also lists the oil sight glass.
Oil Sight Glass

Good Luck! :)

EDIT -- Unsure why Z1E listing does not show KZ1000, but Kawasaki.com shows same part number 52015-004 for KZ1000 and many other Kawasaki models. So would inquire about specific application before ordering. :)

Before your next oil change pour some sea foam in the crank case. Works for me. Roy
