compressoin ratios, power, fuel? was created by jordan
I am debating on the compression ratio for my 1327 kz1000 project. It will probably be street riden more than it will hit the strip, although i am hoping for impressive numbers when i do make it there. If i settled for the 10.5:1 compression pistons over the 12.5:1 pistons would there be considerably less power? Also, I know it has been discussed before but what octane fuel is required for both ratios. ALso, If I got some massive fuel lines and did the required work, would E85 be a possible solution for the higher octane fuel since it is easily accessible at the pumps?

might as well get some alcohal versions of these! id check around and see if you can get something more in the area of 9.5:1 youve got plenty of cc's there no need to run a truckload of compression on a streetbike!check your pm i might have the answer you need sitting in a box somplace around here!:laugh:

Still recovering, some days are better than others.

10.5:1 seems to be the upper limit for pump gas. guys are having to make timing adjustments to make it work.
if u want to get better times at the track u would be better off focusing on traction(clutch, shifter, tires), than more compression.
Remember that u are going to be fighting heat on the street, and more comp. = more heat.

YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET AWAY 10.5-1 COMPRESSION WITH OUT TOO MUCH PROBLEM I WOULD LOOK AT GOING TO A BIT BIGGER CARB PERHAPS 38 FLATSLIDES OR EVEN 40'S. 34'S ARE A BIT SMALL FOR THAT BIG OF AN ENGINE . I WOULD BE LOOKING AT AN OIL COOLER SINCE THERE ARE NO AIR PASSAGES IN THAT BIG BLOCK OF YOURS ALSO MAKE SURE YOUR IGNITION IS IN TIP-TOP SHAPE. AN IGNITION MODULE THAT HAS AN ADJUSTABLE TIMING RETARD FEATURE WOULD BE NICE SO YOUR NOT HAVING READJUST YOUR TIMING PHYISICALLY ALL THE TIME.THOSE SMALL CARBS WOULD GIVE YOU EXCELLENT THROTTLE RESPONSE BUT YOUR TOP END WILL RUN OUT OF AIR REALLY QUICK. SOUNDS LIKE ITS GOING TO BE A FUN BIKE. WHERE IN ONTARIO ARE YOU FROM BECAUSE I RACED IN ST. THOMAS THIS MAY.

I run a Dyna 2000 . It has a timing curve that has less timing at mid rpm's. this helps with higher compression. It also replaces that worn out mechanical advancer with an electronic unit.U can even write your own curves.(i dont know how to ,myself though)

timebomb33 :
I run the rs34's firstly because thats what i had.but also my head has been ported for this size,so it does not fall off at the top.
I live in Cobourg Ont. 1hr east of TO.
I'd love to check out the drags some time,in St. T.
Email me next time u are going.
There are lots of guys here we could round up for a get together.
