Here's that picture.

On a totally unrelated issue. Does anyone know why I can't log onto the forum at home? I click LOGOUT here at work, but then when I try to log back on at home, it won't let me.

89LX; Whoa, that is buggered pretty good! Two options as I see it. First, if you want to do it yourself, you're gonna need a jig to accurately position the drills (after welding of course). You can then install a thread repair insert. I don't like the helical wire types (Heli-Coil). Go with a solid sleeve type, such as Time-Sert. For that M6 thread the O.D. of the insert is 8 mm, which should fit nicely in that boss. If your clever you can use the same jig to position for drilling out the broken off stud and then retap. I believe it's a M6 x 1.0 thread form.
Second, take it to a machine shop that does street work as already suggested. They won't need the jig because the machine tools are rigid enough to put the hole in the right place. Hope this helps you, ride safe, Steve

Yep, can’t hide it. I was pretty ignorant 27 years ago. Hope I’ve learned a little bit in the ensuing years.

So then, it seems the general consensus is to repair the old head (with bigger valves… he, he).

You know, it’d be nice to keep the original head. And this is more of a sentimental journey then anything else.

Think I'll start looking for a good machine shop that specializes in bike. Anybody know of a good one in Dayton, Ohio?
