i have an 81 440 ltd i am trying to customize a little, first question is about exhaust. is it possible to cut off the stock mufflers and weld some short lenghts of pipe on the original pipes? i understand it will probably have to be rejetted, which brings question #2, how do you rejet a carb, what size jets would work, and where would i find them? or i am open to some other suggestions. im not looking for any power gains, i just cant keep any of my vehicles stock! thanks in advance for any help.

First things first, you deffinately need to get yourself a good manual for your bike. A Clymer, or origional shop manual will give you tons of insight into the theory and application of carburetion, and then you can make informed decisions about what to do for practically any situation.

Yes, you can cut/weld/bend, do whatever to the origional pipes. But without a baffle, these bikes are pretty darn loud, and even obnoxious at times.

Cheers, and congrats on new KZ.
