...For the stator cover to get so hot that you cant even touch it?

After riding for about an hour or so, I can place my hand against all of the engine covers (tranny, timing, clutch)for a moment, but the stator cover will take your darn skin off!

I replaced the stator with an old used one a week ago. It is not grounding, and is putting out 50VAC from each line at 4K rpm. Rectifier seems to be working fine... battery new and maintaining proper charge...

Is it possible the replacement stator is rated at lower current and is getting overworked? That heat is coming from the windings (wire) itself, and I can't think that kind of temp rise could be normal.

Is it possible the original one was a three phase and the new one is single phase? That would make it work a lot harder.
