I am begining to assemble parts for my kz 1327 build. I keep running across these kickstart blockoff plates. What is their purpose? Will i even be able to kick over a 1327?

I belive it's just a cover to cover were the kicker normally would be. I dont think you could kick over a 1327, but it sure would be funny to see somebody try.

The blockoff plate does cover the hole left when you remove the splined kickshaft from the engine.

And yes ,you can kick a 1327- had one for years that was 13.5-1. I've got a buddy who has a 1428 15-1 dragbike that runs 8:40-50 at 150+ mph. that has a kickstart he uses all the time if he doesn't have a crewman to start him with a remote unit.

Both of them are CroMoly custom units. I just about put the jagged edge of a broken stock kicker through my right calf one morning.

I know that it replaces the kicker, but is there an advantage to removing the kick starter???

the advantage is your not going to burn out starters all the time with a kickstarter.
the advantage of losing the kick start is a slight weight loss.
do yourself a favor and keep it.
you'll be glad you did when your starter takes a crap.

someday i will be able to afford my kz habit.

will the megaphone header be in the way of using the kicker?

It may depending on what exhaust system you have or are going to use. Most 4-1 street systems go under the bike and then out to the side so you would be fine there. But a true 4-1 sidewinder will probably cause interference.

you will have to get creative with our good friend the torch and have to bend the kicker in ways to get it to fit. schnitz racing builds a box that allows you to retard your initial timing enough to use your stock starter if it is in good shape . if you want to keep your kicker and are using a vance, star or a murray sidewinder you will have to tweek the kicker.

Please explain, I dont understand what you are saying about retarding the timing to use the kicker.

I use a Honda starter on my 1327 and it starts fine.no kick start hear.
Check out my project.Last 2 pages.u will want to add more crank case venting to help prevent oil leaks caused by the bigger pistons.
