I priced piston rings for the 1089 (1100) Spectre pistons today and they want $65 per piston  at the local shop. Is this about right?

Is there another option or a place online that sells them cheaper?

Thanks.

Good info. I will check with some of these places.

About the size - No I haven't checked any sizes and don't really have the tools. Maybe I should take the parts by a machine shop and get them measured.

You would need some kind of caliper I suppose plus a tool to measure inside the bore, right?

If you have measurable wear to the cylinder walls, you may want to get the rings that are 0.25mm over the ones you have now and shave the ends of them to get a tighter ring seal.

I didn't know they made longer rings.

I did see that there are three sizes on the Kawasaki pages for the rings. I talked to the parts guy at the Kawasaki shop locally, and he didn't know why there were so many different part numbers either.

I may be slow, but I'm learning. Keep the information coming, I will soak it up.

Stock
First Oversize
Second Oversize

That's the three ring (and piston) sizes listed in the parts book.

Stock is obviously stock bore.

First Oversize varies depending on model, some are .010" (.25 mm), while others are .020" (.5 mm). Second Oversize is anywhere from .020" (.5 mm) to .040" (1 mm). 3 sizes is all I have seen listed for KZ's, some models may have more sizes available, I know of other motors that have six or more oversizes listed.

I don't recommend getting rings sized anymore than .010" over the piston size. The rings won't hold round very well when compressed by the smaller bore.

The point is the rings are "perfect circles" at their nominal size. If the bore has .005" wear on the walls, standard rings are .005" too small for that bore and +0.010" rings are .005" larger than the worn bore, but the +0.010" rings will squeeze down a bit if you shave the ends of the rings to give the proper end gap (which is about .003" gap per inch diameter of piston) when installed.
