Piece of starter idler gear socket chipped :(

Hi all,

I've got a potentially big problem...

Under the alternator/starter clutch cover, there is a small socket that holds the idler gear between the clutch gear and starter gear.

Well... The socket on the engine side is chipped away at the bottom. I took out all of the minute bits of debris and matched them up to make sure nothing got into the pan.

The gear shaft still fits snug in there, and with the cover on, everything operates ok. Even popping the starter aggressively on-off-on doesnt come loose or even make a sound.

The big Q though... will this pass a safety!?!The bike is bein safetied in 2 days, and the clutch damper ring has to be replaced... :blink:

u should be fine on the safety.They will not take the covers off the motor. Whats a clutch damper ring?

A clutch damper ring is a small metel ring with one side of it that protrudes and is coated with hard abs-like rubber.
It brings the starter clutch gear to a stop once the engine revolutions become faster. (and you release the starter)
