I've seen base gasket leaks that run over that far and drip onto the rider's foot. Could be stator cover maybe. There is also a seal behind the front sprocket (very near shifter) but I don't think it would get on your foot from there. Just see if you can determine where it's coming from and let us know.

If oil is noticed on front of alternator cover, possible source of leak might be: loose exhaust header pipe clamp (check for loose nuts) or faulty exhaust gasket; leaking tach drive seal; leaking valve cover gasket or half-circle plugs.

Other possibilities include leaking shift shaft seal, or over-lubed drive chain, but either of these usually dips out underneath the sprocket cover without getting so much on shoes and left pants leg.

Good Luck! :)

If an oil cooler is fitted, would also check hoses and connections at the cooler. :)

The alternator gasket/grommet has been known to harden with heat and age. www.z1enterprises.com sells replacement grommets. You have to cut the ends off the wires, insert them through the new grommet and crimp new connectors on the ends.

Z1 enterprises lists the cost as $12.38 and as a RI grommet.
