I know its probably been mentioned but my searches show nothing.

I have the 1989 KZ1000 Police bike, I really like the looks of the stock exhaust, i just dont like the Bumble bee volkswagon beetle sound it puts out.

Has anyone modified the stock exhaust on their cop bikes without ruining the stock look?
What can i do to make it sound better, I like Kerkers and the noise they put out when getting on the throttle.

I just dont want to modify the looks or outer shell of the stock system.

there is two little holes on the upper and lower caps on the end of each muffler, what are these for?
Are they the bumble bee sounds?

Should i just drill them or can i fill them?
I want louder is all and a deeper tone.

Most of the idiots around here, myself included, "opened up" the stock mufflers by drilling holes in the rear wall (NOT THE SIDE) of the muffler, next to the large exhaust hole in the center of the muffler. If you drill there it gives the exhaust a direct path out and most of the gas doesn't have to go through the restrictive path through the tiny holes in the long inner tube that exits the back where the larger exhaust hole is.

This will make it louder but maybe need rejetting. Personally, I wish I hadn't screwed up the stock pipes on mine. I wish I had a decent set, I'd put them back on.

Drilled or original?

as far as i know they are original, maybe for moisture release.
I just want a low/deeper sound and dont like the volkswagon beetle whizz sounds the stockers put out.

You guys all know that kz1000 police bike sound, i just dont like it.
Maybe i will look for a used set and modify it like Sweet-Back did. But only using a glass pack thats been extended by my welder so the big pipe goes all the way out the rear without tapering down to a 2" pipe again.

These bikes are so common that you can probably find a used 4-1 header for it on ebay and save yourself a lot of work. Those are usually loud to begin with and you can take out the baffle.

I kinda want to stick with a dual exhaust, unbaffling a stock pipe setup is going to be a challenge since each side is welded and what usually slips on and off on most setups is welded on the cop bike.

The FSM should have a cutaway drawing of the muffler. Like I said, you can drill through the back and open up more direct exhaust paths to make it louder and still use the same muffler shells.
