I checked with all of our suppliers and no one has those rings. However, before you do something rash like order a new 615 kit from me, call Arias. They used to make motorcycle pistons back when the XC rings were popular.

Not sure they ever made anything that small, but if you can get someone on the phone down there that knows what you are talking about, you just might luck out.

OK I have an update on this, now that I have the cylinders off.

Measured the pictn ring thickness. Top .038" or 0.965mm, and second is .048" or 1.219mm Page 2 of this Wiseco PDF File states they ARE XC Rings.

So if there's not anyone out there that makes a set of rings for this animal, I'm have no choice but to buy another 615cc Kit from APE, and send them the cylinders to match them up. I'll be sending the head as well for rebuild in the near future. This engine goes on the back- burner for now.

Here's some pictures, and rechecking the odometer I removed from the bike, it reads 5,199 miles.













I'd say those cylinders look very good. What do you think caused the crustation on the piston domes? Old gas? Leaking Valve Guide Seals?

Did u try Hasting for the rings?
The cyl's look good. why do u think it needs new rings?
what is the piston to cyl clearance?

New piston rings, because I've removed the cylinders from the engine, and the compression was low enough in #1, and more than 14% difference in the other 3. tested all dry, and wet with warm engine and throttle wide open, with all spark plugs out, and a completely charged battery. I'll try to contact hastings, or look them up online. This engine was a track engine before aquiring the bike, and eventhough it has low mileage on the odometer, who knows how hard this engine's been run.

Haven't measured the piston to cylinder clearance yet.

Thanks Mark. I've left a message for Dawn at the number you've given me above. I don't see anywhere on Hasting's Website where Kawasaki Piston Rings, or aftermarket ones for the GPz550 are listed.

...and she just caled back stating they don't show any listings for rings made of steel that small. The only other recommendation is to buy another Wiseco 61mm Kit. Oh well, this will go on the back burner till I get the other 615cc engine running.

look under 61 mm bore size then look for the right thickness. i'll have a look too.

i dont see any that thin? u need .038", and .048", right? i only see .024", .0575", and .0965" in 2.402" diameter.
u could use 2 @ .024" for the second groove?
When u talk to Dawn ask abut the cost of custom sizes.

if Hastings does not pan out try Total seal. They sow 1mm., (.0394"),and 1.2mm. (.0472")
