My Transmission leaks around the Shifter Arm Shaft

My Transmission has a small leak coming from the Seal around the Shaft for the Shifter Arm. The Bike is a 1981 Kawasaki KZ750 H2 4 Cylinder. It looks like I need to replace the bushing or seal around the Shaft. Has anybody had to do this? and where did you get the new seal?

Thanks

Part # 92051-005. Should be stock I would think at most servicing dealers.

My local Kawasaki Dealer says that they cannot get. I also looked on Z1enterprises web site and did not find one. Any suggestions?

They have to be mistaken. The seal was used for 20+ years on everything from a KX80 to a Voyager 1200. Bikebandit has them listed for around $3.50. Just listed doesn't mean they are always available, but if they quit making seals that were used in millions of motorcyles we're in trouble.

They are very easy to replace. I recall having to remove the outer cover, picking out the old seal, cleaning everything up, and sliding the new seal over the shaft and into place.

Wrap a single layer of masking or electrical tape over the shaft splines to keep the seal from catching on a burr and ruin the seal..

When you remove the old seal a small amount of oil may follow, it did on mine.

I saw them on RonAyers.com also.

84 GPZ750. Modded with stock Kawasaki parts: ZR-7 shock, ZX-6 coils, GPZ1100 throttle, EN454 brake, GPZ900 fuse box, etc. and non stock: Ken Sears mirrors, K&N filter, Pirelli Sport Demons.

I did it on my '91 Zephyr 750, which is basically a generic KZ750 engine, about a year ago. In my case, it was the counter shaft oil seal that was bad, but I ordered it, plus the one on the shifter anyway. Both from Bike Bandit.

Transmission plate has to come out, the neutral indicator wire disconnected. The counter shaft oil seal is a big one and easy to remove and replace with fingers. The one on the shifter shaft is small and tight. I needed a seal driver/extrator to deal with that one. Everything went well.

I just replaced this last nite and more than a little oil comes out when you get old seal out!!!lol

I ordered the new one thru a local repair shop who orders from a Kawasaki distributor.
It came in a genuine Kawasaki package and cost me 6 bux.

The part# on the package is 92051-005 and this was for my GPZ750.

Did you have to remove the Trans Sprocket? If so What did you use to get the Trans Sprocket off. Mine seems to be on there nice and tight. So tight that my Impact Wrench will not budge it.
