Wondering if some one can help me out on this new problem i seem to be having. I recently got the clutch cable installed on my bike by a local shop. Because the bike is not running at the moment, i never checked to see if the bike went through all the gears. It engages first, and neutral, but it wont shift up any higher.
I went back to the shop where this was done and he told me it has nothing to do with the clutch but more likely the gear box. this bike has not been running for 3 years now and it was fine before it went into storage. Is this a clutch problem, or is he right and it has nothing to do with the clutch cable he installed. Gear box seazed from sitting for 3 years ??
thanks all

Probably nothing wrong with the tranny.
The bike has to be rolling before you can engage second gear and higher.
It a positive stop device for finding neutral.
Either put the bike up on the center and spend the rear wheel as you shift the bike up through the gears or set on the bike (bike running or not) and coast down a small grade and shift up through the gears.
Hope this helps.

Sitting for 20 yrs won't bother the transmission, unless water is in there. It looks like KZ400 used the positive neutral finder that keeps second gear from being engaged unless the motorcycle is rolling, so I'd bet this is all it is and you don't have a problem.
