Why is oil leaking from here??

Sandy - Yes, the low-profile cover is new (among many other things). I would think that the low profile cover creates a lot more discharge - just waiting to get some confirmation. There are no internal baffles and a lot less space too.

APE Jay, where are you?? Does the low-profile APE breather cover require the use of a catch tank? Could that be why I'm blowing oil out of the filter? Maybe a "race only" part??

just put the stock cover back on for now.it has those rubber diverter tubes inside to direct the oil back down into the motor.the late kz's oil cup setup are dif and better then the z1's.your mk11 should be fine.
didnt u just add bigger pistons? that would give u more blow by untill the rings seat and more crank case pressure to creat this issue.

i have the low pro breather and it doesnt blow aany oil out.

Couple of thoughts... One... The rings are new and need to be broken in. Oil will get by until the rings seat/seal. Take off that filter as it will just clog and stick a hose on the breather until the rings seat and you quit getting blow-by. Two... I had a low profile crank vent breather and installed it a couple years ago and it leaked like a sieve. I never figured out why as I used a new oring but it leaked around the edges badly.

If you have an oil leak and don't know where, CLEAN the engine and then spray it with some talcum powder based spray deodorant. New oil leaking will show easily in the residue left by the spray and you will be able to tell where the oil is coming from.

Forgot to update this thread -

I removed the APE cover and went back to stock - no oil leaking whatsoever! It's nice to have the extra room you get with the low profile cover, but I can't take all of that oil spewing everywhere.


To make sure everyone saw it in my earlier post - the oil leaking from the mystery hole was from the breather. It was running down the cavity under the middle of the long motor mount bolt and leaking out of the hole.

Problem solved for now...

The ape cover may be worped, perhapes check it on a perfectly flat surface.
also look at the o ring seal groove, whether theres any casting faults that may impead sealing

Thanks but the breather seal isn't leaking, it was just oil blowing out of the filter on the breather and leaking onto the engine.
