Well, I have been looking for a kz1000 for a LONG time. Not a whole lot of them around in south dakota. I have 3 small fours, and found many others but never do i come across a 900/1000. A good friend of mine got one for free from his brother and began dissambly. His plans were to make a decent amount of power, so his first step was to get the crank welded. Well, the ambition isnt there anymore and in his basement lies two bare engine cases, the crank, and transmission and other pieces semi-organized into ziploc bags. Throughout his many projects(z28, ratrod, chopper, etc.) he has lost time for this project. The point of this post is for me to understand how difficult it is to reassemble a kz1000 bottom end. Usually I find this sort of thing easy if I personally disassembled it, but I didn't. Is there alot of intricate pieces that are hard to take care of or is it a somewhat straitforward process that can be accomplished? I have spent many hours working on the good ol small fours, so i may know my way around this thing, but what are your opinions?

Look around for a Kawasaki manual.
There are others but I prefer Kaw.
The motor is not hard to put together, Iv dun lots. I STILL LOOK AT THE BOOK,
Most times. Just to check the work.
Take your time + you can do it. You can always ask here someone will have
a answer for ya.

Believe it or not, there's really not that much in the lower end. The major components being the crank, the clutch, kick/electric start gears, output and drive shafts, shift drum/forks, an oil pump and some seals.

I too was a little weirded out about having to split the cases for I had never gone this deep before on a motorcycle engine but since my transmission was jacked up had it go for it just the same.

Ok, so I snapped my friggin engine case... due to being old and stupid... Ok, just stupid...

Now if he disassembled all the drives down to the gears and such then it could be nightmare but it can be put back together just by reviewing the manuals and OEM part fiche files.

After reviewing some of your other projects, I think you'll be able to figure it all out without a lot of frustration...

Jordan....

The link is for the KZ1000 & KZ1100 Service Manual!
You'll need WinRar or some other FREE application off the web to decompile it but it's a really good OEM Kawasaki manual...
